Uncovering the Distinctions Between Slurry and Mud Pumps
What is the difference between a slurry pump and a mud pump? Below, Pan Shi Pump Industry will explain the differences between these two types of pumps.
What is the difference between a slurry pump and a mud pump?
Pan Shi Pump Industry will explain the differences between these two types of pumps.
1. Name – Based Difference
From their names, they vary. A slurry pump is designed to transport slurry with debris and solid particles, and can also handle slurry without solids. In contrast, a mud pump is for mud – like substances and can’t transport slurry with solid particles, much like a sewage pump for sewage and a water pump for clean water.
2. Material – Based Difference
Slurry pumps can transport slurry with solid particles due to their materials. The wetted parts of a slurry pump are made of high – chrome alloy, usually with about 26% chromium content, offering high wear resistance. When transporting slurry with solid particles, it causes abrasive wear on the wetted parts, thus requiring wear – resistant high – chrome material.
However, the wetted parts of a mud pump are made of ordinary cast iron, which isn’t wear – resistant. So, if the substance is just ordinary mud without solid particles, a mud pump can be selected.
3. Price – Based Difference
Due to different materials, the prices of these pumps vary. Mud pumps with ordinary materials are generally cheaper than slurry pumps with high – chrome materials.
It’s crucial to choose the appropriate pump according to the substance to be transported.
