Firstly, from their names, they are different. Slurry pump, as the name implies, is used to transport slurry that contains debris and solid particles. However, it can also transport slurry without solid particles. On the other hand, a mud pump is specifically designed for mud-like substances and cannot transport slurry with solid particles, similar to how a sewage pump can only handle sewage and a water pump can only handle clean water.

So, why can a slurry pump transport slurry with solid particles? It is because of the materials used in the pump. The wetted parts of a slurry pump are made of high-chrome alloy, typically with a chromium content of around 26%, which is highly resistant to wear. If the slurry being transported contains solid particles, it will cause abrasive wear on the wetted parts of the pump. Therefore, a slurry pump with wear-resistant high-chrome material for the wetted parts is necessary.

On the other hand, the wetted parts of a mud pump are made of ordinary cast iron, which is not wear-resistant. Therefore, if the substance being transported does not contain solid particles and is just ordinary mud, a mud pump can be chosen.

Of course, due to the different materials used, the prices of these pumps also vary. Mud pumps with ordinary materials are generally priced lower than slurry pumps with high-chrome materials.

Therefore, it is important to choose the appropriate pump based on the type of substance that needs to be transported.
