What are the differences between rubber-lined slurry pumps and high-chrome slurry pumps?
What are the differences between rubber-lined slurry pumps and high-chrome slurry pumps? Slurry pumps are mainly used for conveying slurries with particles, so they require high wear resistance. Currently, there are two main wear-resistant materials: high-chrome alloy and wear-resistant rubber. So, what are the differences between these two materials? Let Panshi Pump Industry introduce them to you.

High-chrome alloy is a type of metal material containing 26%-27% chromium, which is a metal element with high hardness. Therefore, the chromium content directly determines the material’s wear resistance. Does higher chromium content mean better wear resistance? Not necessarily. We all know that higher hardness also means increased brittleness, like glass. Therefore, the high-chrome alloy used for the wetted parts of slurry pumps is determined through multiple tests to find the optimal ratio that provides both wear resistance and toughness.
Wear-resistant rubber is a lining material composed of a metal framework on the inside and a layer of wear-resistant rubber on the outside.
So, which material is better? Each has its pros and cons:
- Rubber-lined pumps are lighter in weight and lower in price compared to high-chrome alloy pumps.
- Rubber-lined pumps are suitable for conveying slurries without sharp particles. If there are sharp particles present, they may easily scratch the rubber, significantly reducing its service life.
- Rubber-lined pumps generally perform better in terms of corrosion resistance compared to high-chrome materials.
