Abnormal vibration in slurry pumps is an important indicator of pump reliability. So, what causes the abnormal vibration in slurry pumps? In fact, there are many reasons, such as the influence of slurry flow velocity, fluid turbulence, dynamic and static balance, high-speed rotation, etc., all of which can affect the stability of slurry pumps. The following analysis will provide a detailed explanation of the causes of vibration in slurry pumps.

  1. Excessive shaft length: The long shaft of the pump can easily lead to collisions and friction between the transmission shaft and the sliding bearing due to insufficient stiffness, excessive deflection, poor straightness of the shaft system, etc., resulting in pump vibration. A long pump shaft is more susceptible to the impact of flowing water in the sump, which increases the vibration in the lower part of the pump. Large clearances in the balance plate of the pump shaft or improper adjustment of axial working displacement can also cause low-frequency vibrations in the shaft, leading to overall vibration in the slurry pump.

  2. Poor foundation and pump support stability: The fixing form between the drive unit frame and the foundation is inadequate, resulting in poor vibration absorption, transmission, and isolation capacity between the pump base and the motor system. This leads to excessive vibrations in the foundation and motor. Loose pump foundations or harsh operating conditions that weaken the foundation stiffness due to immersion in oil and water can also increase vibration frequencies when the pump is in operation. This is another reason for excessive vibration in slurry pumps.
